Nomination & Voting Process
The Kalasha nomination and Voting process is as an example in transparency and accountability. It takes place in three levels
1. ACADEMY NOMINATION.
An academy of long serving professionals in the film and television industry has been formed to view all entries and nominate those they feel are deserving of a win. The academy is comprised of lecturers, select international producers and median practitioners.
The Academy’s mandate for the year 2009 is from January 19th to February the 30th. During that time, the academy will watch all entries and nominate between four and five entries in every category.
The Nominating Academy will also morph into the Voting Academy once the final list of nominees has been announced. Members of the Academy will each be awarded one vote for each category.
2. VOTING ACADEMY
After nominations are announced, the voting process will start immediately. A voting academy has been constituted to vote during this period. The academy is comprised of film and television professionals, members of the Africa Sinema Club, media practitioners and influential personalities.
Members of the voting academy will meet every weekend during the month of May at selected Silver Bird Cinemas and vote during exclusive viewing parties.
3. PUBLIC VOTING
Of course, the most important voice in all the process is the movie and television viewing public. During the month of May, movie and television fans will have the chance to vote for their favourite productions and individuals. This will mainly be through text messaging and online voting.
VOTE WEIGHTING
During the voting period, the votes of all three bodies will count as follows;
· Judging Pannel- 40%
· Voting Academy- 40%
· Public vote- 20%
ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY
To ensure accountability and transparency, the services of a reputable accounting firm will be engaged. The company will tally all the votes and determine the winner. The names of programs, films and individuals who will win will be kept a secret by the company until the final night. Not even the organizers themselves will know the winners until they are announced.
